reneEvery parent knows that parenthood is a tough job. Military and veteran parents know the job is even harder because of the challenges and unpredictability of military life—and the transition to civilian life can be equally stressful and uncertain for them and their families.

Thanks to a new online tool called Parenting for Service Members and Veterans, parents can now relieve some of life’s stressors by taking advantage of a free, computer-based training, a comprehensive resource recently launched by the U.S. Departments of Veterans Affairs and Defense.

This resource is part of an integrated mental health strategy program between the departments. It aims to provide parents with information and strategies to improve their parenting skills and strengthen connections between parents and their children.

What a great tool! I wish I had this resource when I was raising my kids while I was in the military.

I thought the online course was very engaging, and though my kids are older now, the basic refresher and parenting tips are very helpful to me as a grandparent. I’m finding it just as challenging to stay connected with my grandchildren in meaningful ways from a distance as it was when I was in uniform.

Life is busy.

Parents are busy.

Kids are busy.

As National Domestic Violence Awareness Month comes to a close, we all need to do our part to end domestic violence and practice healthy parenting. There is no better opportunity to make time for our family, especially our children. Please take the time to share this resource with other military and veteran parents.

We all need help from time to time. Do something special by sharing Parenting for Service Members and Veterans with someone you know—from one military-veteran family to another!
